What are the implications of a UK resident living and working in ROI?

I currently live in England, and I am a UK resident, however i%26#039;m planning on moving to Dublin in January 2011 permanently, how can i go about doing this? Do i need to change residency status or can i simply apply for a visa for ROI. Has anyone done this? How long does the process take? Regards|||basically since you%26#039;re an EU citizen you don%26#039;t require a visa or work permit to reside or work in Ireland. Basically apply for your PPS number (National insurance number) and bobs your uncle. It took me less than 20 mins. (you%26#039;ll get your PPS number in about 10 working days)

A word of advice though, unlike the uk there isn%26#039;t a free health system like the UK. So get on private insurance as soon as possible when you%26#039;re earning.

If you%26#039;re travelling by ferry there is no need for ID / Passport at the moment, but that may change soon. You%26#039;ll need photo ID though to open a bank account, so it wouldn%26#039;t hurt to have a drivers licence / passport with you.|||What nationality are you? This will have more of an impact on what you need to know then telling us you are a UK resident

Edit: this link will give you information on what to do if you%26#039;re moving to the Republic of Ireland including information if you require a visa

In the UK you%26#039;ll need to investigate what happens to your National Insurance contributions %26amp; how to go about reclaiming any tax you may have paid if you leave in the middle of the financial year. This link does specifically refer to British citizens, if you are not a British citizen, it will still have numbers you should ring

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/BritonsLivin鈥?/a>|||If you are UK born, you don%26#039;t need residency status or a visa. As part of the Common Travel Area which consists of Ireland and UK including Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, you are entitled to come and go as you wish. And Europeans are entitled to be here too. Bring your passport, though. Airlines and ferries look for photo ID.

If you intend to work here, you will need to register. http://working.monster.ie/ has all the details. There are many English people who have come here to stay.

If you are a UK resident who is originally from someplace else outside of Europe, then you would likely need a visa.|||If you are a EU citizens you do not need a visa, you can just move here.

Below are the web sites I used to obtain all the information I needed before moving here from the UK.|||no, you don%26#039;t need to do anything, just come over. As a member of the EU, you don%26#039;t need a visa to work in another EU country.

I get the impression, you don%26#039;t have a British passport, but still it shouldn%26#039;t matter. There is a Nigerian in my job, who has German citizenship, and he is here, no probs.|||You don%26#039;t need a visa, ROI is an EU country. Phone the Irish Consulate to find out what documents you need to take with you, and what you need to do to get your residency permit.
