What determines state residency?

I was born and raised in Texas, I%26#039;m going to school in Utah (been going for 5 years), and I have no clue where my first job will be, but I%26#039;ll be leaving Utah within a year. How do I know what state I%26#039;m technically a resident of? Is it just based on where I currently live? What if I get a job where I move every couple years? Does my residency change that often, too?|||During college, if you%26#039;re living in a dorm, you generally use your parents%26#039; address as your permanent address. After that, you%26#039;ll be considered a resident of whatever state you are living in at any given moment.
