How do you find out what state you are a resident in?

My boyfriend moved to MN in 2004 and changed his residency to there but since has moved back and been going to school in Oregon. Well he got pulled over and they took his MN lisence just fine but then a few weeks later got pulled over again (broken headlight) and they said that only his OR license was ok.. so how do we know????
How do you find out what state you are a resident in?
You should only have a license in one state. When you move to another state, you are supposed to turn in your old license when you apply for a new license in the new state. Otherwise they are supposed to contact the DMV from where your previous license was to find out if you are even eligible for a license. (It'll show any warrants or suspensions, both of which will prevent you from getting a license in a new state.)

Otherwise, you could just state hop if you get too many speeding tickets, or whatever.

Residency requirements vary with the state, but it has little to do with the license. I went to school in Texas for 9 months out of the year, got a Texas license because I was there so much, but was still a resident (legally) of Louisiana.

In Texas, you have to live there continuously for 1 year, marry a Texas resident or buy property. So legally you aren't really a resident until you meet the residency requirements.

Hope that helps.

But seriously, if your boyfriend has 2 licenses, the older one should have been surrendered at the application of the new one.
How do you find out what state you are a resident in?
Only the newest one counts- he shouldn't carry the older one.
Once you move into another state, you usually have a certain amount of time in which to change over your address on your drivers license. He should call the state police in his area and find out what he needs to do.
If he has no intent to return to MN, does not maintain a residence there, and is physically present in OR, he should have a valid Oregon license as his ID.
He is a resident of Oregon. He lives there and probably pays taxes there.
After moving, you have 10 days to get a new license, and thats the only valid one.
Having two driver's licenses is illegal. How he got past that I'll never know but he needs to turn one in.I'm speculating that the car is registered in Oregon and that's why the cop wanted his Or DL. since the two address matched, he got lucky.

The answer is where has he lived for the past 30 days unless he's a full time student then he can use his parents address.
Your legal residence is the one that you have lived 6 month %26amp; 1 day in, for most states; actually I believe it to be true of all states! If he had a license in OR, why didn't he just show that instead of the MN license. My brother has a home in both IN %26amp; FL, he stays in IN for 6 mo. %26amp; one day, maybe more days, but the rule is only 1 day, because he wants to remain a legal resident of IN, not FL. He has a business in IN that's why he wants to remain a legal resident of IN.
