Your best bet would be to get an employment visa upon graduation such as the H1b as the poster stated above. But you need to have a 4 year degree and it must be from a professional class of occupation. These visas have a quota that begins in October of every year. If you make the quota, the visa can be issued in 3 or 4 months. Timing is critical. So you might want to stay enrolled in some qualifying academic program until you can get the H1B.

If you get the H1B, then you would file a change of status from the F1. See: http://www.immihelp.com/visas/h1b/h1-vis鈥?/a>

Another option if you are an Australian citizen is to qualify for an E-3 visa: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/consular/v鈥?/a> - But you can only apply from outside the US. This visa is a non-immigrant visa and so you have to show ties to Australia and not intend to emigrate. It can be %26quot;renewed%26quot; indefinitely - as long as you don't show immigrant intent. You probably would have trouble moving to a green card from this type of visa. It is easier to move to a green card from an H1B as dual intent is permitted for that visa.

Find an employer who is wiling to hire you upon graduation and sponsor you for an H1b visa. The H1b allows you to work up to 6 years and, if your employer is willing to continue sponsorship, can lead to a green card.

Your spouse and kids will get an H4 visa which does not allow them to work.
hi, i think that if u can get someone to sponsor u %26amp; say that they need u to work for them that it will help u to get some kind of residency. but also i think that while u r going to school here u need to be working at least a part time job for someone there at work to sponsor u. good luck, nobrethequeen
